Parenting Tips On Educating Children About Rape Culture

As the rape culture continually progress, mothers need to educate and inform their children about what rape is and how to prohibit it. A parents' guidance is important when it comes to raising successful and respectable adults. It is important to start them young so that the values would be instilled within them as they grow up.

Educating children about rape doesn't have to be one sided. Teaching young boys not to rape isn't the solution as both genders needs to be educated.

Young boys can't understand the concept of rape, as they are not yet sexually inclined, it is important however to raise them in a way that they would treat women with respect. Respect should be instilled in their values at a young age so that parents could confidently say that they raised fine men.

Huffington Post gave out a few tips when it comes to teaching boys (ones that are old enough to understand, especially before they'd head to college) about rape. It is important to make them understand that the moment the women don't give you any consent to touch her body then its rape. There might not be any penetration involved, yet the moment that you'd do anything sexual to a woman without consent, it is rape.

As for the girls, self respect should be taught during the early stages of their lives. They to should take care of themselves and act in an orderly manner to earn the respect of men.

TIME highlighted one of the most important things that boys need to understand. It is important to teach young men to accept rejection. Subtle that it may seem, it can actually have a huge impact on the way they would treat women.

They may not consider being assertive as rape, but make them understand that when it comes to touching a woman, no means no. In this generation, being assertive is often considered as something positive. Yes, it can be, but on so many levels. It is important for parents to guide them accordingly.

Parents, especially mothers should guide their children accordingly, not only their sons. Daughters should be taught how to behave appropriately as rape doesn't just affect women, but men too.
