'Darksiders 3' Release, News & Update: Dec. 2016 Debut Happening? Online Retailer Taking Pre-Orders

Gamers have been waiting for the release of "Darksiders 3" for years. The hack and slash action video game, originally developed by Vigil Games, first came out for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2010. It had a follow up in 2012.

However, as gaming fans expected a third offering, things changed at the gaming company, which affected potential developments for "Darksiders 3." But now, it looks like its release might finally be pushing forward as an online retailer recently listed the game for pre-order.

Online retail store Base.Com has put up pre-orders for "Darksiders 3" on its site for £44.99 ($64). It indicated that the game will be out Dec. 31, 2016 for the Xbox One and the PS4. However, there were no other details to the "Darksiders 3" release listing. The title itself has yet to be officially announced by publisher and distributor Nordic Games, which now owns the rights to "Darksiders."

Italian website HD Blog reports finding the listing at the online site days before the beginning of the E3 2016 event in Los Angeles. But Nordic Games did not present anything related to "Darksiders 3" at the said expo. Instead, the company focused on showcasing "Spellforce 3,"  "ELEX" and "Battle Chasers Nightwar" to its visitors, per PlayStation Lifestyle.

It should be noted that Vigil Games, which created the "Darksiders" series, has closed since 2013 when its parent company THQ also folded up. Then THQ president Jason Rubin confirmed in January 2013 that the company failed to find interested investors for Vigil Games, thus putting the future of "Darksiders 3" in jeopardy.

However, in April of that same year, Nordic Games stepped up to purchase the rights to "Darksiders" along with other games like "Destroy All Humans" and "Red Faction," per Polygon. The company has recently hinted its plans to revive "Destroy All Humans, per VG247. Could "Darksiders 3" be next in line?
