Apple Will Not Support GOP Convention, Cites Donald Trump as Main Reason For Backing Out

Tech Giant Apple has decided that they will not be supporting in any way the upcoming GOP Party's convention due to the presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump, citing his controversial comments he has made throughout his campaign.

Huffington Post reported that the company has told Republican leaders that they will not support or fund the convention as Trump has made degrading comments against women, immigrants, and minorities such as the Muslim community. The GOP Party's convention will be taking place in Cleveland by next month.

The latest move made by Apple is a significant move for groups who have been calling on major companies to boycott the convention due to Trump. The convention is the formal event wherein Trump will officially be nominated by the Party members.

A spokesman for ColorOfChange PAC, Rashad Robinson, seemingly confirmed the reports about Apple not supporting the convention. Robinson shared, "Not only has Apple declined to support the Republican National Convention, but they've explicitly told Republican leaders that Trump's bigoted rhetoric is the reason that they're sitting out. This is what real corporate responsibility looks like."

Trump also attacked Apple once after he called for a boycott of the tech giant after it refused to unlock the iPhone 5C that belonged to one of the gunmen during the deadly mass shooting in San Bernardino, California.

Despite Apple not backing this year's convention, Emily Lauer, a spokeswoman for the Cleveland 2016 host committee, said that they have raised 90 percent of the needed budget. Other companies who will not be supporting this year's convention are Wells Fargo, Motorola, Ford, Walgreens, United parcel Service, and JP Morgan Chase. It was unclear what the reason is behind not supporting the convention this year.

Coca-Cola, on the other hand, will be donating $75,000 not only to the GOP convention but also to its counterpart, the Democratic Party. Microsoft will also provide technology and other services

Neither Apple nor GOP members have commented on the matter.
