'Supergirl' Season 2 Air Date, Cast News: Can Tom Welling Play A Luthor?

"Supergirl" Season 2 returns on TV Monday, Oct. 10, at 8:00 p.m. on The CW. The network already announced that actor Tyler Hoechlin will be playing Superman/Clark Kent, who will visit his cousin in at least two episodes.

Tyler Hoechlin's casting as Superman in "Supergirl" Season 2 came as a surprise. However, it has been well-received by the public, especially by the comic series' cult following. 'Supergirl' Season 2 Casting: Tom Welling, The Superman Of Television

However, fans of "Supergirl" initially thought that the network would consider giving back Tom Welling the role he played for 10 years in "Smallville." For many viewers of today, he is still the Superman of television.

But in a previous interview, the actor expressed that he has resigned to the fact that he's no longer up for the part. "No one has ever actually asked me to do it," he said back in January, per Screen Rant.

'Supergirl' Season 2 Casting: Tom Welling As Another Luthor

Now that casting for Superman on "Supergirl" is settled, the clamor for Tom Welling's return on a superhero series remains. Would the actor consider playing a Luthor then? "Smallville" viewers may recall that Tom Welling did play a Luthor in the latter seasons of the old series. He was the evil Clark Luthor in an alternate world.

Writers of "Supergirl" Season 2 has yet to bring a male Luthor character, but they already have Luthor's sister, Lena, coming into the show, per a previous Parent Herald report. The potential of bringing either Lex Luthor or Clark Luthor to "Supergirl" is open, especially since bending the rules of reality in a superhero television series is possible.

If the people behind "Supergirl" are going to write in another Luthor, here's Tom Welling for consideration. Watch him as Clark Luthor with his sister Lena Luthor (also known as Tess Mercer) in this video below:
