'The Last of Us 2' Release Date: Plot Development Halfway Through? Neil Druckmann Shares Creative Process

Fans continue to await more updates on "The Last of Us 2" release date. Fortunately, Neil Druckmann shed some light on the rumored title's development, and could have possibly given the reason why the sequel has not made its way to consoles just yet.

In a recent interview about "The Last of Us 2" release date, Druckmann shared how he and his team usually develops the story for their games. He shared that unlike developing stories for movies, the production for video games takes a different path.

"We don't write the story chronologically, I'll usually start in the middle," he told Southern California Public Radio (SCPR). "With 'The Last Of Us', it was the middle of the journey where Joel and Ellie were already together and we will write several scenes in succession for that area as we're building a level and as the gameplay mechanics are coming together."

"That's when the characters are getting defined for the first time," he added. "Then we'll have a casting call and that's where we'll bring, like for the character of Joel, dozens of actors that would come in and read."

Details about "The Last of Us 2" have been really limited online, with speculations and theories mostly keeping eager fans afloat. New reports are suggesting that Neil Druckmann and his team have already brainstormed ideas about the new game, but specifics haven't been laid out as of writing.

Fans have also offered their thoughts online about what can be expected from "The Last of Us 2." Although not everyone is fond of having Joel back, almost everyone is clamoring to play as Ellie more in the sequel.

As Mobile & Apps reported, there have been rumors that Joel might not return to "The Last of Us 2." Given this development, it would be a good opportunity for Naughty Dog to use Ellie more in the new title and even make her the lead character.
