Research Reveal that Caffine May Trigger Permenent Hearing Impairment

It's bad news for coffee lovers as a recent study revealed drinking caffeine can potentially lead to permanent hearing loss. A group of researchers came up with a study where it was revealed that coffee consumption after engaging in activities that causes temporary deafness may prevent the body from healing.

In a study done by the McGill University Health Centre, it was revealed that there is a significant correlation between caffeine consumption and permanent hearing impairment. It was mentioned that caffeine is a contributing factor for permanent hearing impairment.

The study suggest that even a cup of coffee can greatly influence hearing impairment. Drinking coffee 72 hours after an ear strain may prohibit the temporary deafness to be irreversible. Loud noise such as going to a loud music festival, a night at the club, flying in an airplane, and even shooting a gun causes temporary deafness, and drinking coffee after which can cause the individual to suffer from permanent hearing loss.

Dr Faisal Zawawi, who is an Otolaryngologist stated that the hearing loss usually last for 72 hours. He then noted that any hearing loss that would last more than the given timeframe may be permanent already.

"When the ear is exposed to loud noise, it can suffer from a temporary hearing reduction, also called auditory temporary threshold shift, Zawawi said. "This disorder is usually reversible in the first 72 hours after the exposure, but if symptoms persist, the damage could become permanent."

Medical Daily then added that the researchers used 24 female guinea pigs, and divided then into three groups. The first group was exposed to caffeine, the second group to noise or "acoustic over-stimulation," and the third was exposed to both.

The researchers came into conclusion that the guinea pigs that were exposed to noise only were the ones that were about to have a full recovery. According to the lead researcher of the study, it still needs further research, but the results that they were able to acquire already provides promising results.
