‘Empire’ Season 3 Spoilers, Latest News & Updates: Upcoming Season To Feature More Deaths, Sham Marriages And Mariah Carey? Terrence Howard Fired?

"Empire" season 3 premiere is just around the corner and fans are getting more excited for what the upcoming season has to offer. With all the cliffhanging happenings in the previous season, fans can expect that the third installment of the hit FOX series will return on TV with a blast.

Prior to "Empire" season 3, the previous season was full of mind-blowing events - from Jamal's (Jussie Smollett) heroic act of taking a bullet for dad Lucious (Terrence Howard) to Anika's (Grace Gealey) sham marriage and Rhonda's (Kaitlin Doubleday) apparent death. As for the upcoming season, E! News hinted more intense yet fabulous episodes for the Lyons.

Aside from following Jamal, Anika and Rhonda's fates in "Empire" season 3, fans can also expect some massive turn of events, noting how unpredictable the Lyons are. In fact, CarterMatt noted that the Lyons' pursuit for destruction might continue in the third installment of the series.

After what's been said and done in the previous season, fans will see if the Lyons will finally reconcile in "Empire" season 3 but with Lucious and Anika's sham marriage, a reconciliation may be out of the picture. In fact, Parent Herald previously reported that a bolder, stronger and fiercer Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson) may return to retaliate against Lucious.

"The family is together, the company is together, and Lucious and Cookie will be in one another's faces and lives, but her [being finished with Lucious] is going to color everything," "Empire" season 3 showrunner Ilene Chaiken told TVLine last month.

Another must-see event in "Empire" season 3 is Jamal's return to singing. According to Latin Post, Jamal has refused to sing until the moment his hostile family put all their differences aside and won't be at each other's throats whenever they're together.

Meanwhile, the identity of who fell off the balcony in the previous season will be finally revealed in "Empire" season 3. Rumors strongly suggest that the violent altercation between Anika and Rhonda will result to the latter's death, Ecumenical News learned.

In other "Empire" season 3-related news, actor Terrence Howard's role in the series was reportedly in danger. In fact, Howard was almost fired from the series after his former talent management, Authentic Talent and Literary Management, filed a lawsuit claiming that the 47-year-old actor owed them $250,000 and more of its 10 percent over Howard's seven-season contract with "Empire," Deadline reported.

For a more positive note, "Empire" season 3 showrunner Ilene Chaiken teased the possibility of an "Empire" spinoff with Howard and Henson as the lead stars. However, it's not the first time that the topic about an "Empire" spinoff was broached since show creator Lee Daniels has previously hinted about its possibility.

"There certainly could be and we talk about it," Chaiken said at the Television Critics Association Press Tour, as per Essence. "I think the show offers so many opportunities. There are potential spin-offs with Lucious and Cookie's characters, sure."

There are several guest stars that will make an appearance in "Empire" season 3. But among the stars Parent Herald previously mentioned, another interesting personality will be featured this season and it's none other done legendary diva Mariah Carey, who will play the role of superstar Kitty, another Essence report learned.

Carey's "Empire" season 3 guesting is set to air on Oct. 5. The upcoming season, on the other hand, will premiere on Sept. 21, Wednesday, at 9 p.m. on FOX.
