MMA News: UFC Legend Dan Henderson Looks To Retire as Champion

Most professional athletes dream of reaching the highest peak in their careers, which is to win a championship, making them the best in their respective sports, this is certainly the case for long-time Mixed Martial Arts contender and Ultimate Fighting Championship Veteran, Dan Henderson.

Dan Henderson has had a storied sports career, as "Hendo" was a decorated Olympic wrestler before he shifted his focus to mixed martial arts. As a fighter, Henderson has won multiple titles in different promotions, including his reign as the former champion of Japan'sPride Fighting Championships' welterweight, middleweight, and light-heavyweight divisions. Henderson then moved back to the US and fought under Strikeforce, where he became the last light-heavyweight champion at 40 years old.

Now that Henderson is in the big leagues of mixed martial arts, being the UFC, Henderson has yet to win a belt. He's had a mix of ups and downs during his UFC run, and at 45 years of age, the UFC that he's been yearning for has become more and more elusive.

Henderson will have one final shot before his impending retirement, as the UFC has given him the chance to take on the new middleweight king, Michael "The Count" Bisping, in a rematch for the middleweight belt. Bisping, who was knocked out by Henderson back in 2009, accepted the fight despite being challenged by top contenders, wants to avenge one of the most devastating losses of his career, according to Fox Sports.

With a recent victory over Hector Lombard in UFC 199, Henderson was ready to hang in his gloves and call it a career, but when the opportunity came to fight for a title, he simply couldn't turn it down. "A win is always nice. To have an opportunity to actually go out on top would be much more desirable," says Henderson, according to MMA Fighting.

Dan Henderson is set to fight inside the Octagon one more time, as he faces Michael "The Count" Bisping, at Manchester England in UFC 204 this October.
