'Blindspot' Season 2 Spoilers & News: Kurt Weller's Promotion Part Of Shepherd's Plan, New Teaser Introduces Archie Panjabi's Character

Agent Kurt Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) is getting a promotion in "Blindspot" Season 2, but the job is likely not going to last long. The show has also released a new teaser featuring Emmy-award winning actress Archie Panjabi. She joins "Blindspot" as an NSA agent hunting forJane (Jaimie Alexander).

According to Spoiler TV, Weller will be designated as the Assistant Director of the special FBI agency, which will happen in the fifth episode of "Blindspot" Season 2. However, Sullivan Stapleton says in a video interview that he's not sure how long he's going to be the man in charge. To him, being the top man only means he's going to "have more dialogue in the office." Weller works best right when he's out on the field, where the action is.

Executive producer Martin Gero hinted back in May that Weller was being groomed "to become the next Mayfair," per Entertainment Weekly. With Mayfair having died in the last season of "Blindspot," a replacement would then be expected. "Mayfair wouldn't just be replaced by another cog in the system," said Gero.

But this promotion is actually part of the plan that the enemy, Shepherd's group, has initiated, which the FBI has no clue about just yet. It points to why they have targeted Weller in the first season of "Blindspot" via Jane's tattoos. Viewers might recall that Kurt Weller's name is tattooed on Jane's back and it's what led her to him in the first place.

Meanwhile, NBC has released a new teaser for "Blindspot" Season 2 that features latest cast addition Archie Panjabi. The actress joins the series as an operative from the NSA who has been keeping track of Jane, Shepherd and their mercenary group. Watch it below.

"Blindspot" returns to NBC on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 10 p.m. Then on the succeeding weeks, it will begin airing at an earlier timeslot at 8:00 p.m.
