‘Vikings' Season 4 Air Date, News & Update: Ragnar Lothbrok Passes The Sceptre To Ivar The Boneless?

"Viking Season 4" midseason premiere weighs heavy on waiting fans, who wish to know how Viking legend Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) re-establishes himself in Kattegat among challengers and sons Ubbe, Hvitserk, Sigurd and Ivar The Boneless. A "Viking Season 4" trailer seems to promise that the midseason premiere will lead Ragnar Lothbrok to "pass the scepter" to Ivar The Boneless (Alex Høgh Andersen).

Parent Herald cites reports that "Vikings" series creator Michael Hirst intended the Season 4 midseason premiere to begin a focus on the relationship between Ragnar Lothbrok and his son Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig), Ubbe (Jordan Patrick Smith), Hvitserk (Marco Islø), Sigurd Snake-In-The-Eye (David Lindstron) and Ivar The Boneless. In the past the "Vikings" series focused on the relationship between Ragnar Lothbrok and his traitorous brother Rollo (Clive Standen).

What makes this shift interesting is that "Vikings Season 4" essentially gives a preview of how legendary European kings rose from among the sons of Ragnar Lothbrok. "Vikings Season 4," however, promises an elaborate exposition on Ivar The Boneless and how he learned ruthlessness from Ragnar Lothbrok.

Movie Pilot cites the recent "Vikings Season 4" trailer in pointing out that Ragnar Lothbrok turns to Ivar The Boneless to seek revenge on his behalf. The media outlet further highlights that Ragnar Lothbrok could be seen advising Ivar The Boness to be ruthless in the "Vikings Season 4" trailer.

One wonders if this "Vikings Season 4" scene is a symbolic depiction of how the legendary Ragnar Lothbrok passed the sceptre onto the son that came to be known as the greatest Viking leader to have lived - Ivar The Boneless. Certainly, the "Vikings Season 4" trailer showed Ivar The Boneless quite comfortable in the role of leadership - perhaps even more so than Ragnar Lothbrok.
