'The Leftovers' Season 3 Cast News & Updates: Justin Theroux, Damon Lindelof Talk Australia Filming; Katja Herbers Joins Cast

As "The Leftovers" continues its filming in Australia for Season 3, lead star Justin Theroux and show creator Damon Lindelof indulged the local media in talking about their filming experience and working on the series. It's also been announced that Katja Herbers will join in a recurring role in the show's final season.

Moving the filming location of "The Leftovers" Season 3 in Australia has been planned as early as the second season. Damon Lindelof said via The Music that that earlier episodes provided the opening to the Australia storyline, when it was revealed that the father of Kevin Garvey (Theroux) has been finding answers in the continent to what really happened when a portion of the world's population disappeared.

Though the plot to "The Leftovers" Season 3 is being kept a big secret, Damon Lindelof revealed the reason for choosing Australia came about after watching movies from Australian cinema. "They're kind of supernatural movies but nothing overtly supernatural happens in them," said Lindelof. "The gravity of the story was sort of pulling us here," he added. Lindelof also commended the local crew working on "The Leftovers" for their "incredible work ethic."

Meanwhile, people have been telling Justin Theroux that "The Leftovers" is a weird show, but he loves how it much of it is actually a reflection of the substance of life and  living. The actor believes that people go through an existential moment at one point in their life, and this is the crux of what "The Leftovers" reflects on.

Justin Theroux has been in and out of Australia for the last three months as filming for "The Leftovers" proceed. Daily Mail reports that during one of his off days from filming, the actor was seen scouring through the antique shops in Sydney.

In other news, Deadline reports that "Manhattan" actress Katja Herbers has joined "The Leftovers" Season 3 in a recurring role. Like the season's plot, details about the role has also been kept a secret, until the show premieres in spring 2017 on HBO.
