Did Demi Lovato Copy A Song? Indie Band Sleigh Bells Sues Her For Copyright Infringement

An indie group called Sleigh Bells filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against former Disney star Demi Lovato. The group claims that their track title "Stars" is similar to their song "Infinity Guitars."

The "Confident" singer reportedly copied the "Infinity Guitars" track as it sounds too familiar with Lovato's "Stars." "Stars" was released just last year while "Infinity Guitars" was released in 2010. The lawsuit adds that the two songs are "virtually identical content" and that they surpass the reason of coincidence.

The lawsuit further says that when "Stars" and "Infinity Guitars" were compared, it was revealed that the combination of the hand claps and the bass drum, which was structured as 3 quarter beats and a rest, are similar in both songs. Also, the two songs have a bass drum providing a counter-rhythm to the hand claps, E! News reported.

It seems that the lawsuit was the last result for Sleigh Bells because they tweeted about "Stars" when it was released last year. Sleigh Bells said in a tweet that they are flattered the creators of Lovato's "Stars" sampled both their "Infinity Guitars" and "Riot Rhythm" songs but they were not contacted by anyone from the singer's team, the New York Daily News reported.

Two of the producers of "Stars," Carl Falk and Ram Yacoub are also named in the lawsuit. Yacoub was asked about the tweet of Sleigh Bells last year and said that they did not use any samples in the song of Lovato. He added that Lovato was not involved with the production and only wrote the top line.

This is not the first time that Lovato has been involved in such scandal as her hit "Cool for the Summer" was said to have sounded like the hit song of Katy Perry title "I Kissed a Girl."

Lovato and her representatives have not yet commented on Sleight Bells' statements.
