'The Leftovers' Season 3 Spoilers & News: Big Time Jump, Prelude To Apocalypse Coming Up?

"The Leftovers" Season 3 could be heading for a big time jump. Currently in production in Australia, the new season could also delve on the prelude to the apocalypse, which has been written in the Bible. But will the ending provide the answers to the mysteries?

The cast listing for "The Leftovers" Season 3 via IMDb shows that the first episode back will be introducing a lot of new characters. However, curious minds have zeroed in on two names - Mary's daughter (Charlotte Delaney) and Mary's son (Tristan Riggs), who are between the ages of 7 and 10.

These entries suggest -- without finality and without any official announcements from the show's producers, -- that the new season of "The Leftovers" could involve a big time jump in the plot. It also suggests that Mary's (Janel Moloney) awakening remains permanent after the events of last season. But what could have happened to her and husband Matt Jamison (Christopher Eccleston)?

Meantime, Carrie Coon recently posted on Twitter that she's in the final moments of filming for "The Leftovers" Season 3. On the set at Cape Tribulation in Queensland, Australia, Coon wrote that she's filming her "big finish."

But while her post doesn't say much, it's curious to note that the site for her final scenes in "The Leftovers" Season 3 will be at a place called "tribulation." Could the upcoming storyline be a prelude to the apocalypse?

A fan on Reddit theorized that "The Leftovers" Season 3 could be about the final moments before "The Great Tribulation" begins. Also known as the rapture, this was apparently written in Revelations in the Bible. However, this is not an implication that the show will end on something definitive or concrete that could be devastating for viewers to process.

"The Leftover" executive producer Damon Lindelof said in past interviews that in devising the show's final moments, their focus is in giving the series' characters the closure they deserve, even without answering the mysteries of the stories. "Everything doesn't need to be tied up in a neat little bow," said Lindelof via Indiewire. "We just need to move the characters toward some level of internal peace, if that's the ultimate goal for them."

HBO confirmed that "The Leftovers" Season 3 will return in spring 2017, per a previous Parent Herald report. It will only have eight episodes.
