Premier League Transfer News: David Luiz Returns to Chelsea FC

English Premier League club,Chelsea, re-signs their former defender, David Luiz, in a £34 million transfer. The Brazilian defender will return to Chelsea after being transferred to Paris Saint-Germain in 2014.

David Luiz will once again don Chelsea's blue jersey in a transfer that will see him returning to his former club, where he won the 2012-2013 UEFA Champions League, the 2013-2014 Europa League, and the 2011-2012 FA Cup. Luiz's return to the English side will add a much needed boost to the Chelsea defense.

According to ESPN FC, David Luiz was not the first choice for Chelsea to add to their central defensive side, with the club pursuing other stars such as Kalidou Koulibaly of the Italian club Napoli and Alessio Romagnoli of AC Milan. After failing to acquire both Italian League players, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte sought the Brazilian Luiz from Paris Saint-Germain.

After initial failing to acquire Luiz from the French club, due to Paris Saint-Germain not wanting to let their prized defender go, multiple representatives from Luiz's camp and Luiz himself aggressively lobbied for the opportunity to once again play for Chelsea. Paris Saint-Germain accepted Luiz's decision, and allowed the transfer to happen.

After the signing of his 3-year contract with Chelsea, Luiz made the statement that he was excited to once again play for the English side, saying that he has a wonderful time during his days in Chelsea, winning multiple major trophies, and he wishes to help the team and Antonio Conte bring Chelsea back to the top of the Premier League, according to Chelsea's official website.

Luiz was able to pass his medical for his return to Chelsea's Stamford Bridge in dramatic fashion, with only five minutes left before the transfer window was closed.

Chelsea currently holds second place in the Premier League standings, with Manchester City at the first.
