"Designated Survivor," ABC's new political drama starring Kiefer Sutherland, is staging a "24" reunion. The show has recently announced the casting of Sutherland's fellow "24" alum, Mykelti Williamson, in a recurring role that will have the actors working side by side again.
It has been eight years since Kiefer Sutherland and Mykelti Williamson worked together as CTU agents on "24." The reunion on "Designated Survivor" is surely making fans more eager for the series' debut, which will be on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 10:00 p.m. on ABC.
While Kiefer Sutherland will play the assigned president of the United States in "Designated Survivor," Mykelti Williamson will play Admiral Chernon, who will become President Tom Kirkman's most trusted advisors, per Deadline. Together, they will weather through a very challenging presidency, especially since Tom Kirkman doesn't seem to be prepared for the task assigned to him.
As the title suggests, "Designated Survivor" is the official title of someone who's been assigned, not elected, to lead the country based on the presidential line of succession. This only happens in an unexpected event or when the top level government officials are unable to fulfill their duty.
On "Designated Survivor's" very first episode, most of the United States' top leaders are shown to have perished in a terrorist attack that was launched when the president was holding his State of the Union address. Watch this video below to learn more about the show's premise.
Meanwhile, early reviews reveal that "Designated Survivor" is one of the newest shows poised to do well as the fall TV season rolls out. Ad Week predicts that the show will bring ABC the numbers it expects to become a hit, which should be a good thing for potential advertisers. The series also stars Natascha McElhone, Kal Penn, Maggie Q, Adan Canto, Italia Ricci and LaMonica Garrett.
