'Narcos' Season 3 Trailer, Plot Details & News: What You Need To Know About The Cali Cartel

The third season of "Narcos" is still a year away, but Netflix has already released its first teaser. Because it has largely been announced that Pablo Escobar's story will end with "Narcos" Season 2, the show will now lead with new characters for the next season. The Cali Cartel will take center stage, as Netflix has announced the show's renewal as well.

Netflix subscribers, who have already seen "Narcos" Season 2, have been introduced to the Cali Cartel. Established by brothers Gilberto Orejuela (Damian Alcazar) and Miguel Rodriguez (Fransisco Denis) with Helmer "Pancho" Herrera (Alberto Ammann), the fourth man of the cartel's executive board, Jose "Chepe" Santacruz-Londono, has yet to be introduced in the series.

In "Narcos," the Cali Cartel was instrumental in the end of Pablo Escobar. They worked with his competition, Judy Moncada, and also enlisted the vigilante group Los Pepes. They also provided intel for the Search Bloc in the Colombia police.

"Unlike Escobar, who had positioned himself as an outlaw, Cali was very much a part of the system," said "Narcos" executive producer Eric Newman, via The Hollywood Reporter. Newman confirmed Gilberto and Miguel will be two of the main characters in "Narcos" Season 3.

Though Escobar's life story on "Narcos" was basically legendary, the Cali Cartel had a bigger organization and had an influence in Colombia's presidency in 1994. They had control over military, financial and legal institutions as well. They were listed as one of the world's most powerful crime syndicates, per Foreign Policy.

However, the DEA was able to topple down the Cali Cartel within two years following the arrest of Miguel Rodriguez, per the Chicago Tribune. It is within those two years where "Narcos" Season 3 will focus its stories, and will likely move on to a Mexican cartel for Season 4.

Catch up on "Narcos" via Netflix as Season 2 has been released last Sept. 2. The first season, which debuted in 2015, is also still available on the streaming site. Meanwhile, watch the first teaser to "Narcos" Season 3 below.
