NBA Trade Rumors: Knicks To Take In Russell Westbrook, Thunder Acquires Derrick Rose and Kristaps Porzingis

NBA trade rumors are at its last lap. It is just a little while that is left before any of these rumors materializes as the training camp is going to begin soon. The recent NBA trade rumor involved two prominent teams and three very high-profile players.

According to the NBA trade rumor, the two biggest teams, the New York Knicks and Oklahoma City Thunder are in the midst of talks for a three-player deal. According to the deal, point guard Russell Westbrook will be sent to Knicks in exchange for fellow point guard Derrick Rose and power forward Kristaps Porzingis.

If this NBA trade rumor materializes, it would be a huge trade and would change a lot of things in the upcoming season. The trade would be well within the NBA trade guidelines when salary is considered. But, it should be noted that Russell Westbrook just signed a contract extension with Oklahoma City which involves three years and a whopping $85 million. In lieu of this, Thunder cannot trade Westbrook until December 15, reported Inquisitr.

It is possible that this deal could be struck mid-season if the teams decide to make roster changes and add a little bit of momentum to their respective teams. Though Derrick Rose was a former NBA Most Valuable Player (2010-11), he has had injuries and has struggled because of the same. During the last season, Rose was relatively healthy but averaged only 25 games played when all four previous seasons are considered. This includes that entire 2012-13 campaign that he missed. There is hope among the teams that the former NBA All-Star can return to his former MVP form. However, Rose's value in the trade market will entirely depend on his performance and health in the early part of the upcoming season.

When Russell Westbrook is considered, it is expected that he will become even more dynamic during the upcoming NBA season after the departure of former teammate Kevin Durant. Thunder expects Westbrook to take the load for them for which he is capable.

At the same time, the very tall Kristaps Porzingis, has quieted the doubters by his spectacular rookie season. The team would not even think of him as a trade chip. However, the idea of obtaining Russell Westbrook in exchange is tempting indeed.

This NBA trade rumor sure is interesting. However, it is difficult to evaluate this deal because we are yet to witness the game that Rose and Porzingis will put forward in the upcoming seasons. If they perform and meet expectations, Knicks will lose out in the deal. Conversely, if Rose fails to deliver and Porzingis is limited in delivering what he can, then it would turn sour for Oklahoma City if they give up Russell Westbrook to New York.
