'Homeland' Season 6 Delay & News: Rupert Friend Injured On Set, Season 8 Could Be Last

The filming of "Homeland" Season 6 in New York has been hit with a minor delay. Rupert Friend, who plays Peter Quinn in the series, has been injured on the set. Meanwhile, showrunner Alex Gansa reveals that "Homeland" might close its final chapter after Season 8.

Deadline reports that Rupert Friend has been walking with crutches in recent days, following an injury at work on the "Homeland" set. The actor confirmed that he hurt his right ankle and "weakened his ligaments" as a result of previous set injuries.

Friend had been filming the first two episodes for "Homeland" Season 6 in New York since late August. The actor was actually spotted on the streets while in character as Peter Quinn, which suggests of the secret agent's fate in the show's return, as Parent Herald reported.

But now that he's off work and healing, the "Homeland" production had to change some of its shooting schedules to minimize the delays, while waiting for the actor's return in a couple more weeks. "Homeland" Season 6 has a Jan. 15, 2017 premiere on Showtime, and showrunner Alex Gansa assures its fans and viewers they will be able to deliver this.

Meanwhile, Gansa also revealed that "Homeland" could end after Season 8. Following its two-season renewal in August, a Showtime executive stated that "Homeland" actually has an "open-ended expiration date," per TV Line. Gansa stated that he hopes "Homeland" will be able to shoot its final scenes in Israel, where the show's original source comes from.

"Homeland" Season 6 will follow Carrie Mathison's (Claire Danes) new life as a New York City foundation worker for Muslim groups. It will open during the transition of governments, as a new president has just been elected. "There will be striking parallels between what's happening politically [in reality] and what's happening in our world of make believe," said Danes, via People.
