Nintendo NX Update: Pokemon Company CEO Implies Hybrid Nature, Confirms Support

More news for the mysterious next generation of Nintendo's console line has come out of the ether, with recent reports revealing the device will support "Pokemon" games as well as lending credence to speculations that the device will have a dual or hybrid nature.

The Pokemon Company Chief Executive Officer Tsunekazu Ishihara recently had an interview with The Wall Street Journal, as shared by IGN. During the interview, Ishihara spoke of the company's future plans and how the "Pokemon" series will continue in the Nintendo NX.

Speaking of the Nintendo NX, Ishihara said that the machine is "trying to change the concept of what it means to be a home console device or a handheld device." Though the Pokemon Company boss' words were somewhat vague and lacking in specifics, they at least further the idea that the Nintendo NX is aiming to harmonize the two man general platforms of gaming and might even be a hybrid of sorts.

One of the current speculations about the Nintendo NX is that it is a hybrid machine, combining aspects of both portable handheld gaming and home console couch gaming, if not outright having the versatility of allowing to choose between the two. An idea is that the Nintendo NX could take the dual screen concept brought forth by the Wii U, only allowing more options for the controller to function as a full machine.

Another idea for the Nintendo NX' hybrid nature is that it might have interchangeable parts to some degree; this could mean that either user could modify it to suit their needs or maybe parts of the machine itself could be replaced and allow the actual console to be turned into a handheld device.

Aside from further igniting the speculations around the Nintendo NX and it's possible hybrid nature, Ishihara also confirmed that The Pokemon Company will indeed produce games for the Nintendo NX. This ramps up the possibility of "Pokemon" joining "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" and "Mario" as the first few titles releasing for the Nintendo NX.

Speaking of "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, a recent leak for both the game and the Nintendo NX was brought about by amiibo figurines for the title. A posting on the Nintendo of Europe page in the amiibo section indicated the figures will arrive in March 2017, strongly implying that the game will release at or before that time and possibly with the Nintendo NX as well.
