'Jumanji' Sequel Controversy & Latest News: Karen Gillan's Skimpy Costume Draws Ire, Actress Defends 'There Is A Reason' For Bare Outfit

The "Jumanji" sequel has dropped its first photo of the cast on the set last Tuesday. It featured Kevin Hart, Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan and Jack Black in full costume, in what looked like a scene from a jungle.

However, instead of creating excitement, the photo drew a lot of ire from the fans. Many couldn't help but comment on what Karen Gillan was wearing in the "Jumanji" sequel. Her skimpy clothes -- a crop top and shorts -- revealed a lot of skin that observers noted she couldn't possibly be comfortable wearing these in the "jungle."

The photo, which Kevin Hart shared on his Instagram, was taken during the first day of filming for the "Jumanji" sequel. But as soon as this was posted, fans commented about Karen Gillan's tiny clothes.

However, Dwayne Johnson was also quick to pacify the ire of fans by also replying in the comments. "Her jungle wardrobe will make sense when you know the plot. Trust me," the actor wrote, per Timeout. Karen Gillan also addressed the "Jumanji" sequel controversy on her Twitter by acknowledging that her character is indeed wearing child-sized clothes. "Yes, there is a reason! The pay off is worth it, I promise!" Gillan wrote.

Meanwhile, the "Jumanji" sequel will reportedly follow the events of the original children's movie that starred Robin Williams in the 90s. "We're not trying to recreate the movie that people may be familiar with," said Kevin Hart, via Entertainment Weekly. "We're trying to modernize it, for those people who don't know what Jumanji is, in a clever, unique way," he added.

"Jumanji" is a board game that became too realistic. In the original film, Robin Williams' character lived inside the game, who got out along with other characters, when one of the players rolled the proper numbers in the dice. The original family adventure had a box office gross of $262,797,249 worldwide, per Box Office Mojo. The sequel is heading to theaters on July 28, 2017.
