Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Playstation VR Comparison: Which Virtual Reality Gaming Headset Should You Get?

With the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive already in the market, and the Playstation VR soon to come in October 13, which of the three best virtual reality gaming headsets should gamers get? Here is a rundown of each of the VR systems to help you decide.

The competition is truly stiff when it comes to virtual reality, as the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and the Playstation VR are all competing for a spot in everyone's living room as their virtual reality buddy. Many may find it hard to choose, but these facts will surely narrow down your choices.

We have a spec guide for the three VR headsets, thanks to IGN, and the first to be discussed is the Oculus Rift. The Oculus Rift was the first virtual reality gaming headset to be released in 2016, and promises to be the best.

The Rift features two screens with a display resolution of 2160 x 1200, and a field of view of 100-110 degrees. You will need a PC with at least a NVIDIA GTX 970/AMD 290 or its equivalent or better, an Intel i5-4590 core or better, at least 8GB+ DDR3 RAM, an HDMI 1.3 video output and 2 USB 3.0 ports. It has a built-in 3D audio and weighs around 1.3 pounds. The price of the headset is $599 with an Xbox controller.

Next is the HTC Vive, which was released in April of this year. The Vive VR also comes with two screens, same as the Oculus Rift, with a display resolution of 2160 x 1200, with a field view of 100 degrees.

The HTC Vive does ha a built-in audio system, and will require a PC to ha at least a NVIDIA GTX 970/ AMD R9 290 or better an Intel i5-4590/AMD FX 8350 core or better, 4GB+ RAM, an HDMI 1.4 or DisplayPort 1.2 for its visual output, and 1 USB 2.0 or better port. The HTC Vive headset weighs around 1.22 pounds, and is a bit more expensive compared to the other two VR systems at $799, which comes with to wireless controllers.

Lastly, the Playstation VR from Sony, which will be released on October 13. The Playstation VR only needs the Playstation 4, and is expected to sell out faster due to its accessibility and price range, which is only at $399. It has a single screen with 960 x 1080 resolution, with built in 3D audio. It weighs around 1.34 pounds, and will need the Playstation DualShock controller or the PS Move.

In a poll from The Verge, which asked people to vote for the VR headset they were most likely to buy, the Oculus Rift came in at first with 35%, followed closely by the Playstation VR with 34%, leaving the HTC Vive in last place.
