'The Americans' Season 5 Air Date & News: Elizabeth To Deflect To US? Filming Finally Gets Underway [PHOTO]

The cameras have started rolling for "The Americans" Season 5. Executive producer Joel Fields has been documenting the production on his social media account. There have been speculations that the upcoming season will have Elizabeth (Keri Russell) finally seeing through the cracks. Will she be the first to deflect to the United States instead of her husband, Philip (Matthew Rhys)?

On Twitter, EP Joel Fields announced that "The Americans" have filmed their first scene for Season 5. He shared a photo from the set, with what looks like Elizabeth and her daughter Paige (Holly Taylor) together at the Jennings home.

A week before the filming, Holly Taylor also posted on her Instagram that they have done the table read for "The Americans" Season 5. The show is filming on location in Brooklyn, New York.

Meanwhile, Fields and co-executive producer Joseph Weisberg hinted that Paige's recruitment to the KGB "will come to a boil" in the upcoming season, according to Deadline. For the last three seasons of "The Americans," this storyline has caused a lot of tension between the Jennings parents Philip and Elizabeth.

Speculations are that the Center could violate their handling of Paige's recruitment, which will then have Elizabeth finally seeing what's wrong with the system she has believed all her life. Between Philip and Elizabeth, the latter has always been more determined to fight for the cause of her motherland Russia, but it's likely that the tides will shift in "The Americans" Season 5.

"The Americans" Season 5 is going to premiere in the spring of 2017 on FX with 13 episodes. The cable network has earlier announced that the show has been renewed until a sixth and final season that will culminate in 2018. "We have no doubt that this two-season order will allow Joe and Joel to tell this story to its perfect conclusion," the network's statement said, per Variety.
