'Daredevil' Season2: Elodie Yung Cast as Electra in Netflix Series -- Who is Elodie Yung?

On Tuesday, Marvel announced that another character will join the upcoming season of Marvel's "Daredevil" on Netflix next year.

Elektra, one of the well-loved characters in the "Daredevil" mythology, will be brought to life by the French actress, Elodie Yung. She will join John Bernthal who will play Frank Castle, also known as The Punisher in season 2.

Marvel revealed this on their website, as they provide an introduction about Yung's role. "Yung will play Elektra, a mysterious woman from Matt Murdock's past whose dangerous and exotic ways may be more than he can handle."

The team probably did a thorough search for the next Elektra as Executive Producer and Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb, puts it, "After a worldwide search, we found in Elodie the perfect actress to embody both Elektra's impressive and deadly physicality, as well as her psychological complexity."

Loeb believes that Yung's character is a perfect match for Charlie, played by Matt Murdock. He is hopeful that the pair will bring to life the "most beloved and tumultuous comic book relationships" with impressive action scenes in which the show is popular for.

Elektra was created in 1981 by Frank Miller and was debuted in "Daredevil" #168. Aside from getting Daredevil's attention and being one of his romantic interests, she was involved in a supervillain organization, known as The Hand, IGN has learned. She is a well-trained assassin that sometimes appears as Daredevil's lover and at other times his enemy.

Prior to the announcement that Elektra will be joining the next season of "Daredevil," fans have already speculated that the female ninja assassin will soon be among the new characters in the next season. 

According to The Hollywood Reporter, one of the episodes showed Matt and his best friend, Foggy, talking about a Greek girl that Matt dated once, which hinted the audience about Elektra since she is the daughter of a Greek diplomat.

The 34-year-old Yung is a French television and film actress. She appeared in 2013's "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" as the heroine, Jinx. Among her other films are "District 13: Ultimatum," where she played one of the five gang lords, Tao, and 2011's "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo."

Elektra was previously played by Jennifer Garner twice. She appeared as Elektra in 2013's "Daredevil" and in another solo follow-up film, "Elektra," Comic Book Resources reports.

"Marvel's Daredevil" is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC studios. Season one is available for streaming on Netflix. The next season of Daredevil is scheduled to debut in 2016 on Netflix.
