‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 13 Spoilers: Hard Times Ahead For Amelia & Owen; Second Pregnancy Terrifies Amelia

The honeymoon stage of Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) and Owen (Kevin McKidd) on "Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 appears to be short-lived. Their marriage will be put to the test early on as Amelia struggles with whether she wants to have another child again.

In last week's "Grey's Anatomy" episode, Amelia and Owen were devastated after finding out that the former isn't pregnant. It was revealed, however, that Amelia was relieved when her pregnancy test came back negative despite appearing happy over the possibility of conceiving another child.

Amelia even made an effort to tell her colleagues at the hospital that she's pregnant despite not having any confirmation yet. In an interview with TVGuide, Scorsone said that Amelia was "getting more and more rattled" as the possibility of a pregnancy looms over her. By the end of the "Grey's Anatomy" episode, Amelia was shocked and afraid upon realizing that she's not emotionally ready to be pregnant again.

Scorsone believes that Amelia is "very much in love" with Owen and she wants to give him children. The problem, however, is Amelia's past.

Amelia was a drug addict when she conceived her first child with former flame Ryan (Wes Brown). Their baby was anencephalic or had no brain. Amelia thought that she left this horrible past of hers behind but it only resurfaced during her baby-making plans with Owen.

True enough, in the "Roar" episode of "Grey's Anatomy," Amelia finally told Owen that she wants to delay having a baby. As expected, Owen's confused and "quite rattled" just like Amelia.

Scorsone thinks that her "Grey's Anatomy" character "would like to be ready" to have another baby in terms of "her life and her career and her conscious desires." Parenting Meredith's (Ellen Pompeo) children prepared her for that, not to mention the fact that she's great at handling kids.

"It's just that the trauma that she's been through over and over again in her life, culminating in the death of her first child, is overwhelming her nervous system at this point. So, although she consciously wants it, her unconscious is in a pretty ferocious battle with her conscious," Scorsone explained to TVGuide.

Through it all, Amelia will find an unexpected helping hand in Alex (Justin Chambers) in future "Grey's Anatomy" episodes. Amelia and Alex aren't really close friends but the former will feel safe with him and see him as a kindred spirit. Amelia and Alex are both fighting heavy demons and that will serve as their connection on "Grey's Anatomy.

"Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 returns for episode seven titled "Why Try to Change Me Now" on Nov. 3. Watch the promo below.
