Going Viral: Professor Lets Student Bring Newborn To Class, Earns High Marks & Praises On Social Media [PHOTO]

A professor at a South Carolina university is earning praises on social media. Dr. Josie Ryan, who teaches math at the Lander University, has been accommodating of a student who became a new mother when the teacher allowed her to bring her baby to class.

A photo of the professor, where she's carrying newborn baby Isaiah while teaching the class, is going viral. Her student and Isaiah's mom, Sarah Thompson, shared the image on Facebook. She wanted the world to know about the goodness her professor has shown her.

Sarah Thompson revealed that when Dr. Josie Ryan found out she was giving birth in August, she has encouraged her to bring the baby to class. This way, she wouldn't have to drop out and delay her studies. Dr. Josie Ryan was also kind enough to let Sarah Thompson know where the breastfeeding sites are in the school.

"It's so reassuring to know there are professors out there like this," Sarah Thompson wrote on Facebook. "Not only is she an amazing person, she's also one of the best math professors I've ever had," the new mom added.

Isaiah is now two months old and has been a constant presence in Dr. Josie Ryan's class, CBS News reports. The professor, as well as Sarah Thompson's classmates, has literally watched the baby grow before her eyes.

Sarah Thompson's partner, Chris, is also studying and has been working part-time to support their growing family. Though Isaiah's parents can also count on extended family to look after the baby from time to time, Sarah said that having Dr. Josie Ryan is making a big difference in their young family, according to ATTN.

As many young women in the same boat as Sarah Thompson, who are doing their best to finish school while struggling with child care, the student can only hope that there are more professors like Dr. Josie Ryan.
