Teenager Killing Pizza Driver? Attorney Says Murder Was Stupid And Teen Is Not Guilty

A teenager is allegedly responsible of killing a pizza driver. But the lawyer defending the teen said that the murder was stupid and his client is not guilty. The teenager was charged as an adult in the case.

Gwinnett County police officers responded to the parking lot of the Wesley Herrington Apartments. They found the pizza driver, identified as 28-year-old Shane Varnadore, without a pulse and was in the fetal position. Varnadore was shot once in the chest leading to his death. The car, his money and his cellphone were found later. A Papa John's pizza carrier, which was empty, was also found in the area plus a two-liter bottle of soda and a shell casing.

After officials found the victim and the aforementioned items, the teenager, identified as 14-year-old Reginald Lofton, was seen walking into his nearby apartment and were carrying pizzas. The defense attorney of the teenager, Leanne Chancey, said in a statement, "He may be guilty of being stupid. But he's not guilty of participating in this armed robbery" that led to the death of Varnadore.

The killing took place on March 1. Lofton was charged as an adult. The charges he faced were murder, felony murder, armed robbery, and aggravated assault. It is believed that Lofton and another man, 21-year-old Jermaine Young, lured Varnadore. They both lived with the sister of Lofton at the apartment complex where the shooting took place, AJC.com reported.

It remains unclear who of the two pulled the trigger, said Assistant District Attorney Sabrina Nizam. Although it is unknown who pulled the trigger, Nizam said that it does not matter because both were involved in the robbery. As per Georgia law, they are both responsible equally.

Accordingly, the weapon used to kill Varnadore was shown in the photo uploaded on the Facebook accounts of Young and Lofton. The uploading was made hours before the killing. The gun used to kill Varnadore was said to be placed in a pancake mix, People reported. The sister of Lonton claims that her brother was cool as a cucumber when he walked into the apartment with the stolen pizzas.
