'Pokemon GO' Latest News & Updates: Is Niantic's Plus Wearable Accessory Really Worth It? Here's How It Works

Is a $34.99 piece of plastic worth it? As a trainer, is it a must to have a "Pokemon GO" Plus? Could it be another hype or waste of penny?

According to Forbes, it is hard to go back to normal- as when there is a Pokemon craze around- unless Niantic finds ways to keep users playing. Now, it has a "Pokemon GO" Plus.

The "Pokemon GO" Plus will allow you to attach it to the belt or pocket. It can be worn on the wrist as it has a small screwdriver that will allow you to attach to '90s-style cloth bracelet. It is only a button that shaped like a Pokeball with a GPS location indicator. In fact, it's a plastic and terrible how it looks.

The "Pokemon GO" Plus can track the distance for eggs with the application in the background even if the phone is locked. In "Pokemon GO", it does not have a feature like this. The wearable accessory could help the phone battery to last longer as it can still track the distance even if the phone is locked.

It does not need to open the game and it does not need an active screen all the time. But every time a Pokestop needs to be rotated or Pokemon needs to be catched, the notification flashes on phone. Therefore, using "Pokemon GO" Plus will still drain the battery.

When a Pokestop is near the "Pokemon GO" Plus it will buzz. It buzzes longer when a Pokemon appear. The button should be pressed and the cued 1,2,3 shake players which is familiar with from the base game. The device will flash either red or green depending if a Pokemon has been caught or it fled.

It is frustrating because only one shot is allowed. However, according to Retail Dive, the demand for the Pokemon Plus has exceeded the company's expectation, as usual. "Pokemon GO" Plus should not be used when hunting for a high CP. It is a lesser chance to capture a rare Pokemon because great or ultra balls, nor berries or curveball tactics can be use unless the game will be open on phone.

So far, there are no issues on pairing the device. It works properly as it spins Pokestops. It catches Pokemon and can track distance. A "Pokemon GO" Plus is a shortcut to the most basic functions of the game. Using Plus is like playing the game no more than 15% of the game at best because the chances to catch reduce to the press of a single button.
