Marvel’s ‘The Defenders’ & ‘Agents Of SHIELD’ Crossover: Can Ghost Rider Bridge The Gap? How It Could Work

Superhero television shows crossing over with each other isn't surprising and reports surfaced on the possible crossover between "The Defenders" and "Agents of SHIELD." The CW has been doing it for quite some time now with their TV shows based on DC Comics: "The Flash," "Supergirl," "Arrow," and "Legends of Tomorrow."

Marvel is also doing a crossover titled "The Defenders" with the titular superheroes from Netflix's "Daredevil," "Jessica Jones," "Luke Cage," and "Iron Fist" as its headliners. Questions, however, are rising whether ABC's "Agents of SHIELD" are joining the fray. After all, all of these Marvel TV shows exist in the same universe -- but could it work even though "Agents of SHIELD" is in a different network than "The Defenders?"

According to Carter Matt, "Agents of SHIELD's" Robbie Reyes a.k.a. Ghost Rider (Gabriel Luna) is the perfect bridge between the show and "The Defenders" or even a movie, though the latter can be more difficult to pursue. Ghost Rider was already linked to the recently released "Doctor Strange" because both are leaning toward MCU's magical side, Parent Herald previously reported.

Ghost Rider may not be at par with someone like Luke Cage in some aspects but he possesses notable skills that are a huge asset in fighting bad guys, Carter Matt added. Ghost Rider has superhuman strength and superhuman durability when he's in his demonic form.

Aside from that, he's an excellent combatant, a fire manipulator, can empathically read people, is capable of touching or incinerating non-corporeal beings, and enchant inanimate objects by infusing his powers into them. With these abilities, he can be more magical than Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist but his dark side aligns him well with them.

Scheduling is also at play between a possible crossover between "The Defenders" and "Agents of SHIELD." Ghost Rider is not a main part of "Agents of SHIELD" like Clark Gregg or Chloe Bennet and he's only been around for a couple of episodes. Because of this freer schedule, Luna can easily be taken from "Agents of SHIELD" and cross over to "The Defenders." But of course, this possible crossover remains to be seen.

"The Defenders," which will air on Netflix sometime in 2017, will star Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), and Finn Jones (Danny Rand). Other cast members include Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple), Scott Glenn (Stick), Rachael Taylor (Trish Walker), Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Elodie Yung (Elektra), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson), Carrie-Anne Moss (Jeri Hogarth), and probably Jon Bernthal (The Punisher), among others, IGN listed.
