'Little Mermaid' Live-Action News & Update: Lindsay Lohan Wants To Play Ariel For Disney, Will Studio Take The Hint?

Disney announced last August that it was pushing forward with the live-action remake of its 1989 animated favorite "Little Mermaid." No casting details have been revealed just yet but Lindsay Lohan, who is a former Disney star, has expressed she would like to play Ariel.

The actress made the effort to let Disney know she wants to be in the "Little Mermaid" live-action production. She posted this on her Instagram account saying that Ariel is her dream role and she tagged Disney's profiles in the photo. Her followers agreed that she would be perfect for the part.

Lindsay Lohan got her big break at Disney in the movie "The Parent Trap" when she was only 11-years-old. This was followed up by a string of other hits that certified her status as one of Disney's biggest stars in the early 2000s. Disney is making the "Little Mermaid" live-action a musical like the original animated version, but could Lindsay Lohan carry a tune?

Teen Vogue notes that Lindsay Lohan did have a promising singing career when she was starting out. Vanity Fair cites that the actress is already a redhead, which makes casting her for Ariel for "Little Mermaid's" easier.

What has been confirmed on "Little Mermaid" so far is that Disney has hired Lin-Manuel Miranda to work with Alan Menken for the music on the live-action flick, Deadline reports. No theater date has been announced by the studio so far, but the movie is expected to be released either in 2018 or 2019.

This early, The Motley Fool notes that Disney's "Little Mermaid" live-action has huge box office potential. But it's not the only studio doing their version of the story about a mermaid who falls in love with a human as Warner Bros. is also doing a "Little Mermaid" live-action.
