'Apple iMac 2015' Release & Review: October Release Coming? Upgrade Sports 21.5-Inch Display With Boosted Resolution [Rumors]

Apple's new iMac is rumored to be released in the "next few months," according to gadgets website, Tech Crunch.

The new 27-inch, 5K retina iMac is a "beautiful desktop computer, but a bit too expensive for many people," says the news outlet. Eventhough the 5K iMac is now cheaper ($1,999) than when it first came out ($2,499), it still is expensive, given that you'd pay more necessary upgrade costs for an SSD or fusion drive to make it more powerful.

Now, things are going to change: beta testings of the OS X El Capitan details of an upcoming iMac. This new model features a smaller display at only 21.5 inches but with a 4K resolution.

According to French website Consomac, this new 21.5-inch iMac comes with a retina display. The native resolution will be a whopping 4096 x 2304, which more than doubles the existing resolution. The current 21.5-inch iMac possesses a 1920 x 1080 display. According to Tech Crunch, the new display means that you users will be able to watch a 4K video in its native resolution, without having to scale it down.

The report further comments that this feature will be a treat for video professionals and an eye candy for everyone who sees it.

In the looks department, pretty much nothing has changed. The iMac's looks remain the same with a thin body and clean, strikingly simple design. Apple won't be updating the iMac's design this year.

The new 21.5-inch iMac is a lot cheaper than its 27-inch variant. The current 21.5-inch model is priced at $1,099, and the model with the retina should be a bit more expensive than that.

Before, consumers had to choose only between a 15-inch MacBook Pro with a retina display or a 27-inch iMac with a 5K display. Now, with the 21.5-inch model, Apple fills in the gap.

According to MacRumors, KGI Securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, said that the iMac line will have a boost this quarter with new processors and improved display quality.

"We believe Apple will introduce new iMac models in 3Q15, which are expected to have key selling points such as more powerful processors and much better display quality," Kuo said.

Improvements in the display are said to come in the form of greater color saturation, but Kuo does not mention anything about Apple planning to extend Retina display options to the smaller 21.5-inch iMac lineup. Mac users will just have to wait for the new model's release sometime this year.
