This is seen in the latest episode wherein Georgie (played by Allison Scagliotti) was killed and then evil forces took her soul to a pit of darkness. Followers of the show would surely remember how this scenario is very similar to how Nina Dobrev as Katherine Pierce banished in an episode from Season 5.

Although the producer of "The Vampire Diaries," Julie Plec chose to stay mum about Nina Dobrev's return in Mystic Falls, she did confirm that the similarity of Georgie and Katherine's demise is not accidental. Another article from Hall of Fame Magazine reports how Julie Plec teases the return of Katherine Pierce. The post even said that seeing Nina Dobrev as the mysterious Katherine might be better than returning as Elena.
