‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 8 Spoilers: Katherine Pierce Returning In The Finale Angers Fans; Would Rather Have Nina Dobrev Return as Elena!

Well, "The Vampire Diaries" fans rejoice! Nina Dobrev's coming back for "TVD" season 8. But it's not in the role fans expected. Nina Dobrev's coming back to Mystic Falls to reprise her role as Katherine Pierce. It is a bittersweet moment as fans are happy for Nina Dobrev to be back for "The Vampire Diaries" last season but would rather see her play as Elena Gilbert again rather than Katherine Pierce.

You'd be wondering why Nina Dobrev is reprising her role as evil vampire/Elena Gilbert doppelganger Katherine Pierce rather than "The Vampire Diaries" beloved Elena Gilbert. It all comes down to the death of Alaric's assistant Georgie. If you remember, in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 episode entitled, "Coming Home Was A Mistake", "TVD" fans saw Georgie die the same way Katherine Pierce did back on "The Vampire Diaries" season 5.

In a story on Entertainment Weekly, "The Vampire Diaries" executive producer Julie Plec said that the similarities of Katherine and Georgie's death are not accidental. But teases "TVD" fans that the bigger question is can someone go back from Hell. This is a pretty solid hint that Georgie and Katherine will definitely be back one way or another before the end of "The Vampire Diaries" season 8.

This possible return of Nina Dobrev in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 as Katherine Pierce is drawing mix reactions from "TVD" fans. Some are saying that they're happy as long as Nina Dobrev is back on "The Vampire Diaries" while others are disappointed that although Nina Dobrev is returning, they'd rather see her reprise her role as "The Vampire Diaries" fan-favorite Elena Gilbert.

What "The Vampire Diaries" fans really want to know at the end of the series is whether it will be Delena or Stelena. In the books, it was definitely Stelena but as the television series veered away from the books, we'll never know who will Elena Gilbert really end up with. "TVD" fans are hoping that now Nina Dobrev's returning to play Katherine Pierce, it won't be hard to play her doppelganger Elena Gilbert as well.

But if Nina Dobrev's really only returning to "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 to reprise her role as Katherine Pierce, how does Katherine play in the recent plot of "TVD" season 8? Many are speculating Katherine would be helping Stefan and the rest in defeating Seline and Cade as well as help with Damon. But "TVD" fans know that Katherine Pierce is a pretty shady character.

Katherine Pierce might appear helping the rest of "The Vampire Diaries" gang but ultimately be working for her own gain. Or Katherine Pierce could be the key to waking up Elena Gilbert from her supernatural coma without Bonnie having to die.
