Using Antidepressants To Cope With Prenatal Depression

Depression is a common thing these days. Many people are employing different methods and ways to tackle their increasing depression.

According to Cosmopolitan, eight out of ten people are facing stress issues. If stress and depression are so common under normal circumstances, it comes as no surprise that pregnant women experience a lot of stress and prenatal anxiety. In order to get rid of feelings like sadness, apathy, stress and irritation people generally make use of antidepressants.

In order to cope with an increasing amount of anxiety, pregnant women consume anti-depressants as they need to keep themselves happy. The thing to be lamented upon is that these antidepressant can affect the unborn babies in horrible ways. Yes, antidepressants may help a mother tackle her anxiety temporarily but only at a price of causing a lasting harmful effect on her baby before he or she even opens their eyes in this world.

Taking these drugs isn't the wisest of thing to do but in the end, it is more of a personal choice. Depression itself impacts your unborn baby. It is suggested that women should keep themselves relaxed during pregnancy. There are some healthier activities too that can tackle your depression, drugs should rather be avoided.

According to March Of Dimes, it is suggested not to use these medications in the first trimester, as the baby's organs are in a developing stage and employing drugs at this stage can impact the development leading to disabilities.

These drugs can be used in the second or third trimester as the risk is less in the later stages.
Still, these antidepressants can result in your baby requiring intensive care at the time of birth or can lead to problems like underweight, shortness of breath at the time of birth, postnatal syndrome, heart diseases and much more. So babies in the womb of women who are users of antidepressants are always at risk.
It is suggested that one slowly gets rid of these medications well before conceiving a baby.

Once the baby is conceived, parents should not quit medications abruptly because it'll have some withdrawal symptoms which will become difficult to cope with given a human-being growing inside a mother's belly. Pregnant women should try to confront their depression through therapies and participating in some activities that betters one's mood. Antidepressants are simply not a good friend during pregnancy.
