'Sherlock' Season 4 Updates & Latest News, Cast, Air Date: BBC Series S4 Dark With Major Deaths? Holmes’ Fans Would Beg For Hiatus?

"Sherlock Season 4" from the BBC will be a very dark season for Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and John Watson (Martin Freeman) such that fans will want the hiatus after anticipated major deaths. Fans no longer need to worry about Benedict Cumberbatch taking his last turn as Sherlock Holmes in Season 4 as the BBC star will be on board for S5, but not before the series by creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss take a break.

Digital Spy cites pronouncement by Steven Moffat to Entertainment Weekly that Sherlock Holmes will be in for an emotionally disturbing ride in Season 4. In fact, "Sherlock Season 4" will bring the toughest episodes for Holmes according to Steven Moffat.

Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, Amanda Abbington (Mary Watson) and Mark Gatiss (Mycroft Holmes) have each expressed how dark "Sherlock Season 4" will get. Unsurprising to be sure given that Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss will tie up the main arc that the "Sherlock" series had been building since Season 1.

Although fans of the BBC series are keen to see new episodes soon after "Sherlock Season 4" wraps, Benedict Cumberbatch is confident that things will turn out otherwise. Parent Herald cites Wales Online report where Benedict Cumberbatch predicted a hiatus after "Sherlock Season 4" Episode 3.

According to Benedict Cumberbatch, once fans get through "Sherlock Season 4" they would themselves want the BBC series hiatus. "Sherlock" fans won't necessarily be in hysterics after Season 4. Still Benedict Cumberbatch assured that the BBC series taking a hiatus before rolling back in with "Sherlock Season 5" will make sense given what S4 will unfurl.

Perhaps this indicates that both Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson may have some grieving to do before "Sherlock Season 5." Especially so because both Mary Watson and Mycroft Homes may be killed off in "Sherlock Season 4" as theorists speculate.

The BBC will air "Sherlock Season 4" premiere, "The Six Thatchers" on Jan 1, 2017. Do you think the "Sherlock" series can continue in strength after Season 4?
