NBA Latest News: Former NBA All-Star Steve Francis Charged With DUI And Threatens Officer

Ex-NBA all-star Steve Francis was arrested for driving while intoxicated and after threatening an officer in Houston last Saturday, Nov. 19. The former Houston Rockets' star player was stopped for speeding. Francis was reportedly driving 88 mph in a 65 mph area at around 11:20 p.m. and refused to take a field sobriety test when the police noticed that he smelled alcohol.

Police described Francis being uncooperative that forced the arresting officer to call for additional officers to the scene, according to Bleacher Report. Francis was pulled over in a 2017 Chevy Tahoe but during the stop, police also found marijuana in his possession.

 Francis was also arrested in 2001 for drunk driving while he was still playing for the Houston Rockets. Previous records show that Francis had issues with alcohol before and have been well documented.

During the arrest, police stated that Francis was very uncooperative and verbally abusive. He even vowed to retaliate against the arresting officers during the incident and eventually was taken into custody on charges of drunk driving, possession of marijuana and a felony for retaliation, via TMZ Sports.

According to Yahoo Sports, the former NBA star was released on a $5,500 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned this Wednesday, Nov. 23. He faces multiple charges as well as felony for assaulting a police officer after warning he would get revenge during the arrest.

Steve Francis was selected as the No.2 overall pick in the 1999 NBA draft by the Vancouver Grizzlies then was traded to the Houston Rockets and won the rookie of the year award. He was known for being a prolific scorer and was selected multiple times as an all-star. Francis played for the Houston Rockets and Orlando Magic during his nine NBA seasons. He officially retired in 2010 after being cut by a basketball team in China.
