Facebook Built 'Censor' Tool For China, Mark Zuckerberg Most Frequent Executive To Visit The Country

The most used social media platform Facebook has built an internal censor tool for the Chinese market. This special tool censors posts before they appear on profiles and feeds.

The censor tool's commercial release date is still to be announced. It has undergone several tests before going out to the public.

According to The Times, the tool helps Facebook get in China by conforming with the Chinese internet censorship laws. The U.S. based company did not reveal who manufactured or invented the tool but rather expressed and reiterated their long-term interest to enter China by understanding their culture and learning more about the country.

Facebook's main focus is to help Chinese businesses and developers to expand their markets outside China using the existing ad platform. There are more than twice as many online people in China than the US residents. However, their online activities are controlled and limited due to the country's censorship laws known as the Great Firewall.

Over the past years, CEO Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook made a great effort to create harmonious relationships with the Chinese authorities including President Xi Jinping. He made several trips to the country and became one of the most well-known executives to frequently visit China.

If you must know, Facebook has been banned in China since 2009. Today, the social media platform is still nowhere close to entering and doing business with the Asian country but they are hoping that with the release of their censor tool, the Chinese authorities will reconsider.

Other social media and tech companies such as Google and Twitter are also blocked in China. Other U.S. technology companies like LinkedIn and Evernote tailored their services to comply with the country's censorship regulations. In other countries, Facebook, Google, and Twitter comply with local censorship laws and block content.

Facebook is yet to roll out special tool they have created. Do you find this move desperate for the tech company? Some speculate that this new tool will never see the light of day. Tune in for updates!
