'Fargo' Season 3 Air Date, News & Update: Filming Starts January, Noah Hawley Preparing For Spring Premiere

The anthology series "Fargo" is setting up pre-production for its third season. Creator Noah Hawley is preparing to return to the filming site in Calgary with the rest of the crew and a new cast headed by Ewan McGregor.

Filming officially starts in January 2017 and will go on for five months.The new season will have to meet a targeted spring premiere date on the cable network FX. It is expected to have 10 episode as with the previous two installments.

The Calgary Sun reports that open casting is already underway for "Fargo" Season 3. The show is looking for people with ethnicities for its extras.

"Fargo" Season 3 will have Ewan McGregor playing the dual role of brothers, Emmit and Ray Stussy, Deadline reports. One is a self-made man, while the other is a struggling parole officer, and at the center of their feud is a stamp collection. The show also stars Carrie Coon ("The Leftovers"), Mary Elizabeth Winstead ("BrainDead") and Jim Gaffigan ("My Boys").

Though plot details have been kept hush-hush, the new season is said to be set in 2010, following a '70s setting from the second season. "I like the idea that we're now living in a very selfie-oriented culture where people photograph what they're eating and put it up for other people to see," Noah Hawley said, according to Vulture.

"Fargo" is based off a 1996 film by the Coen brothers. The first season's plot and characters were directly inspired by the movie. The second season took viewers to the earlier years of some of the characters for Season 1, so that there is an interconnection of stories.

Noah Hawley isn't confirming if the same thing could happen in the upcoming season, but he isn't totally shutting down the possibility. Re-emerging characters, however, won't likely be playing a major part in the new story of "Fargo." Stay tuned for more updates.
