'Gilmore Girls' Forgettable Boyfriend Paul Defends Rory; Jack Carpenter Calls Out 'Unfair' Judgments Against Alexis Bledel’s Character

The "Gilmore Girls" revival series on Netflix introduced Rory Gilmore's (Alexis Bledel) boyfriend of two years. But because fans only met Paul (Jack Carpenter) for the first time in the "A Year in the Life" special, he has not made much of an impact compared to Rory's other boyfriends.

Paul has also been written in "Gilmore Girls" as a forgettable guy. Rory couldn't even properly break up with him because she often forgets that he exists, according to Bustle. Worse, she had been cheating on him with her college boyfriend, Logan (Matt Czuchry).

In the end, Paul sent Rory a text message to say that he doesn't think their relationship is working out. Suffice to say, Rory wasn't even crushed.

"Gilmore Girl" fans who grew up idolizing Rory think that her treatment of Paul has been harsh and terrible. But Jack Carpenter is calling out on the judgment the character has been getting from netizens and Netflix viewers since the series launched.

"We don't really know the inner workings of their relationship or how much time they've actually spent together," the actor said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "He's going to make someone happy, but it's definitely not going to be Rory," he said.

On a more professional note, Jack Carpenter points out that Paul was an obvious plot device to further Rory's story in the revival series. Though he didn't learn much about his character, he was excited to work with the "Gilmore Girl" cast and its creator Amy Sherman-Palladino.

As to whether or not he could be the father of Rory's child, Jack Carpenter doubts that it's the case. Netflix and the show creator are still not confirming if "Gilmore Girls" will get another run that will feature Rory as a single mom. For now, everyone in the cast and crew are enjoying the show's successful launch on the streaming site and thoughts about returning to work haven't started.
