Meanwhile, the previous episode also featured Ian and Mickey's road trip to Mexico. Although Ian was shown together with Mickey heading to Mexico, last night's episode featured a surprising twist. Ian suddenly changed his mind and decided not to go with Mickey to Mexico and got off at the border. What will happen next after the surprising separation?

In an interview with TVLine, Noel Fisher described the road trip surprise as "a really wonderful and bittersweet, but very beautiful goodbye." The actor further teased, "at least for now," suggesting it is not the end of the love story of the two yet.

Although the unbelievable farewell scene seems to hint that Ian has somehow outgrown his love for Mickey, Noel Fisher emphasized on the strong bond that Mickey and Ian shares. The actor detailed how Mickey and Ian have evolved through their roller-coaster relationship. Both Ian and Mickey has also helped each other discover what each wants for his life and has both been a good deal of support when one needed a strong shoulder to lean on.

When asked if Mickey landing in Mexico suggests the end of his storyline, Noel Fisher teased that the series still has left an open door for Mickey. The actor emphasized that if Mickey was able to escape prison, he can always find a way to redeem his life and get back home to his roots.
