'Winds of Winter' Release Date: George RR Martin Not Pressured To Finish Before GOT Season 6 Premiere, 'I’m Just Going To Tell My Story'

There is a continuous buzz online about the sixth installment of the popular book series, "A Song of Ice and Fire." However, there is no confirmation yet as to when the book will be released. Earlier reports suggest that the anticipated book, "Winds of Winter," will be launched before "Game of Thrones" season 6, but it seems that the waiting could be longer.

The last novel, "A Dance with Dragons," was released in July 2011, but the four years of waiting for the next book did not cool down the ardent fans of the book series, who are still eagerly waiting for it. However, this time, the waiting could be prolonged as Martin hinted that he is no longer pressured to finish the book and there's a chance that its TV adaptation, "Game of Thrones," might finish first before he completes the book series.

"The show is moving forward like a locomotive, or sometimes a jet locomotive," Martin said in an interview with GeekWire at the Sasquan science-fiction convention in Spokane. "They're writing 60-page scripts, I'm writing 1,500-page novels. So who the hell knows?"

The 66-year-old author admitted that there was a time when he was concerned that the show may catch up with his book, but he realized that his worrying would not change his predicament in any way, so he just continued his routine.

"I still sit down at the typewriter, and I have to write the next scene and the next sentence ... I'm just going to tell my story, and they're telling their story and adapting my books, and we shall see," he said.

On the other hand, while it's not clear when the book will be available. Martin read a chapter of the "Winds of Winter" and it features Princess Arianne of Dorne, the eldest daughter of Prince Doran Martell. Princess Arianne was never introduced in the HBO hit series, but fans were quick to speculate her role.

She is the heiress of Sunspear and is supposed to marry Viserys Targaryen. In the books, "A Clash of Kings" and "A Storm of Swords," it was Princess Arianne who welcomed Myrcella Baratheon, the middle child of King Robert Baratheon and Queen Cersei Lannister, according to  News Everyday.

Since there is no date when "Winds of Winter" will be released, Martin was asked again during the interview if the book will be ready by next spring when "Game of Thrones" season 6 premieres. The celebrity author is sick of hearing the same question, but he adds humour in his response, saying, "Don't ask me when the book is going to be done - I'll ask my minions to lop your head off."
