Poultney Teen Arrested For Shooting Another Teenager; No Bail For Manslaughter Charge

A young man was arrested by officials as he is the primary suspect in the death of another teenager. The teen arrested who was identified as 19-year-old William Bailey was charged with manslaughter.

Bailey is a former Granville High School student and is from Poultney, Vermont. He is now at the Marble Valley Correctional Facility and it was ruled that there will be no bail for him, The Post-Star reported.

The victim was identified as 19-year-old Daniel Hein. Authorities believed Bailey used a semiautomatic handgun to shoot Hein. Officers first received reports about the death of Hein after members of the Poultney Rescue Squad were called at the residence on Roberts Avenue.

Hein was found by rescue workers inside a vehicle in a driveway. The Fair Haven Fire Department also responded to the scene.

Bailey and Hein were said to be in the same vehicle together with two more men. One of the four people inside the car, 21-year-old Dylan Czarnecki, was arrested for probation violations.

The other occupant, Jonathan Testa, 21, is sought as he could be a potential witness, Burlington Free Press reported. State Police in Rutland are now asking people to help in locating Testa. Both Czarnecki and Testa left the car before police arrived.

Vermont State Police spokesman Scott Waterman said that investigators are considering the incident as a homicide. Police are not yet sure why the shooting occurred or what happened before the shooting. It was not stated if there was any confrontation before the shooting. It also remains unknown what the relationship of Bailey and Hein were. Czarnecki and Testa both come from the same area so it is possible that they have known each other for a time before the crime took place.

Bailey will be arraigned on Monday in Rutland, Vermont. He is set to answer his charges by then. More information will be released as the investigation progresses.
