‘Wonder Woman’ News: U.N. Honorary Ambassador No More, Due To Character’s Being Bisexual? Superheroine Said ‘That’s Not Fair’

The United Nations has dropped "Wonder Woman" as the Honorary Ambassador for the Empowerment of Women and Girls. Protests to remove the iconic character from the post made star Gal Gadot unhappy.

Prior to the release of the new "Wonder Woman" movie, "Wonder Woman" was appointed as the Honorary Ambassador for the Empowerment of Women and Girls by the United Nations in October this year. The appointment led to much disappointments from the staff of U.N.

During a presentation designating the character "Wonder Woman" as an ambassador on Oct. 21, a significant number of U.N. staffers quietly stood and turned their backs with a raised fist as a sign of protest. Then a petition urging U.N. to remove "Wonder Woman" from the post was made, which has reached about 45,000 supporters.

According to the protestors, the position holder should be a real-life feminist role model, which the iconic superheroine "Wonder Woman" is deemed to be not fit. The protestors argued that a cleavage-bearing character wearing thigh-high boots does not project a positive image for women and girls, NBC News reported.

On the other hand, "Wonder Woman" star Gal Gadot finally responded to the backlash. The actress expressed her amusement with how the people have reacted. Gal Gadot told Time Magazine that there are lots of horrible things happening now around the globe and she could not believe that people are exerting efforts to protest on this issue.

Gal Gadot stressed that people claim that "Wonder Woman" is physically strong and smart, but she could not be sexy as well. The actress also added, "That's not fair. Why can't she be all of the above?"

Gal Gadot is actually both a soldier and a model. The newest "Wonder Woman" star has won the title of Miss Israel in 2004 and has also served in the Israel Defense Forces.

Reports have also feasted on Wonder Woman being bisexual. Did the protest stem out from Wonder Woman's sexual preference too?
