Will Smith Has Great Advice For Parents Whose Son Wants To Wear Skirts Like His Boy Jaden Smith

Will Smith is cool about his son wearing skirts. The famous father's 18-year-old-boy, Jaden, is widely-known for his penchant for non-gender conforming fashion and has been both praised and criticized for it. But Will Smith is hardly bothered by Jaden's fashion choices.

During an interview with BET, the "Suicide Squad" star said that he and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith are on the same page when it comes to letting the children express themselves. This includes Jaden's choice to wear women's clothes.

"[We're] encouraging them to be what they are because you can never be happy being what you're not," he said. The Smiths also have a daughter, Willow, who has her unique fashion sense. Will Smith has on older son, Trey, from a previous relationship.

This isn't the first time that the Academy-award nominated actor has expressed support for his son's non-gender conforming ways. In February 2016, he also obliged "Insider" about the topic in a televised interview.

"As a parent, it's scary, it's really terrifying," Will Smith admitted, Yahoo reports. "But he is completely willing to live and die by his open artistic decisions and doesn't concern himself with that people think."

Jaden Smith's unique style has inspired him to open a clothing line, MSFTSrep (pronounced as "misfits"), according to Variety. He created this to help "lost kids" who also feel they are different and might be afraid to be ridiculed.

Asked why he's into wearing skirts, Jaden Smith told GQ that he doesn't see the distinction between men's and women's clothes. He's comfortable in them but other people might be scared and confused about gender norms.

Jaden acknowledges that his parents have a big part in how he sees himself. They are the reason why he's not afraid to make bold choices. "[They] told me that the world was harsh and that we had to be strong within ourselves," he said in the Variety report.
