Samsung Introduces Notebook Odyssey, A Laptop For Gaming!

If you want a new laptop that's specially designed for playing games, then this one's for you. Samsung is launching its first laptop tailor-made for gaming called the Notebook Odyssey, which has keyboards backlit in different colors.

The Notebook Odyssey, which debuted at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, will first come out as a 15-inch laptop in February. A 17-inch model will be released in April, The Verge reports.

The Notebook Odyssey is Samsung's answer to Lenovo's gaming laptop Legion. In terms of looks, The Verge notes that it bears similarities with Acer's Predator and Asus's Republic of Gamers.

Its lower-tier version has a keyboard with red backlights, while the higher-end model's backlights are multi-colored. All models have a 1920x1080 display, a maximum brightness of 300 nits, and HDR capability, according to TechCrunch. The 15-inch model has NVIDIA GTX1050 graphics, while the GPU for the larger version is yet to be announced.

The Notebook Odyssey also sports a Kaby Lake Core i7 chip from Intel, and RAM that can be adjusted to 64GB and 1TB. For cooling, it has HexaFlow, a colorful ventilation technology beneath the device. Because it is made of plastic, the laptop is light and easy to carry.

The launch of Notebook Odyssey marks Samsung's return to the gaming scene after half a decade of absence. Early reviews of the device at CES 2017 were mixed.

IGN says the Notebook Odyssey's specs, particularly its expandable memory, make it appear to be a "pretty solid" gaming laptop. Its expandable memory is useful especially for triple-A games that can eat up a lot of storage space in any device.

The Verge, however, thinks the laptop's hardware is subpar. Instead of high-end materials, the Notebook Odyssey is made of hollow plastic. It also describes as gaudy the glossy plastic on both sides of the touchpad, which has LED lighting.

The Notebook Odyssey's price starts at $1,199 for the smaller model. Are you excited to buy this laptop?
