Faraday Future Launches Electric Car FF91, Said To Be The World’s Fastest

The startup company Faraday Future took this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas as an opportunity to show off what it's got. At CES 2017, the company showcased its FF91 car, which it touted as the world's fastest electric car.

Faraday Future told audiences during its CES 2017 presentation that the FF91 can change its speed from 0 to 60 miles per hour within just 2.39 seconds, Bloomberg reports. It said the FF91 can beat Tesla's Model S car by 0.11 seconds, and even showed footage of the former outracing the latter.

Faraday Future's FF91, equipped with 1,050 horsepower, can travel beyond an adjusted EPA range of 378 miles. As well as a personalized interface for its users, the luxury SUV can find available parking space on its own.

Nick Sampson, the company's senior vice president of engineering, described the FF91 as the "first of a new species," Reuters reports. At the car's presentation he told audiences they were about to witness a "new era of mobility."

Jia Yueting, the Chinese billionaire funding Faraday Future, said that through cars like the FF91, the company aims to build not only a vehicle but also a "shared internet mobility ecosystem." He vowed to devote everything, even his life, to that dream.

The FF91's designer, Richard Kim, called the car "weird-pretty" as officials of the company promised it would be the most technologically advanced car when it rolls out in 2018. Insiders say the car will cost $180,000. If you want to reserve a unit this early, there's a fee of $5,000.

Jia, the chief executive of a Chinese company called Leshi Holdings Co. Ltd., has invested more than $300 million in Faraday. Faraday Future hopes to get investors' nod for its debut offering and erase concerns about the company's financial viability following missed payments to the contractor that worked on its Nevada factory.
