Gabrielle Union, Husband Dwyane Wade Struggling To Get Pregnant: 'Certain Amount Of Shame' Put On Career Women

Actress Gabrielle Union, 42, married NBA star Dwyane Wade, 33, last year and while they have three kids from his previous relationship, the couple has had no luck with having their own kids. The actress recently opened up in the latest issue of Redbook Magazine about her struggles as a woman who has tried to balance a family and a career.

"The reality is that women are discriminated against in the workplace for being mothers," the star of "Being Mary Jane" told the magazine. "As much as there are strides being made—you get pregnant, your career takes a hit. You can't have a bad day. Don't you dare cry at work. Don't raise your voice. Especially if you're a black woman in corporate America - now you're 'the angry black woman.'"

Gabrielle admits that having a baby has not happened to her and Dwyane just yet, and stresses that there are some women who have felt guilty when choosing to put career first over family. "There's a certain amount of shame that is placed on women who have perhaps chosen a career over starting a family younger," the actress said. "The penance for being a career woman is barrenness. You feel like you're wearing a scarlet letter." Gabrielle and Dwyane are currently undergoing IVF treatments to conceive, according to Yahoo

Meanwhile, to honor the anniversary of their first year of marriage, the pair came out with a video taken from their 2014 wedding that seemed straight out of a Hollywood movie, according to People Magazine.

The clip presented scenes that looked like it's from a romantic comedy, with highlights to comedian Kevin Hart's toast to the couple and a montage of Gabrielle and Dwyane getting ready for the wedding. The clip was exclusively shared on People.

Gabrielle and Dwayne started dating in 2009, but four years later, they split due to career conflicts, according to Mail Online. However, they rekindled their relationship in 2013, and then married the next year in Miami.

"I'd always wanted an awesome career with back-to-back projects, but I realized I wasn't willing to sacrifice my relationship for it," the actress said via Glamour. "Moving forward, I decided my work schedule has to make sense for our family. If your relationship isn't something you're willing to give up and you can compromise, do so."

The Redbook October issue also features two other women, Erin Andrews and Maria Menounos, who also shared their insights about marriage and kids.
