Puberty is when a lot of physiological and physical changes occur. This happens due to rapid growth and development primarily because of hormonal changes.

Breast development in the female body is because by puberty and is one of the most noticeable changes in the body. Female puberty usually began between the ages of eight and thirteen although several might start puberty much earlier or later. But in general, it starts during middle or high school years.

There will be a natural increase in the hormone estrogen in the body as puberty occurs. Such are hormones responsible for the changes that happen during the stage of adolescence which includes the development of breasts.

Parents on the other must guide their teenage daughters when they do feel that it's time for them to wear a bra as it will continue to grow over time. In the early stages of breast development, it will appear as small nubs or lumps that are usually known as breast buds. They continue to grow until they are fully matured, usually, breasts take three to five years for them to totally mature.

According to Flo, when breasts began to bud they will first appear as a firm bump underneath one's nipple. The areola, on the other hand, may also grow along with the nipple.

Teaching girls what to do when their breasts develop

There are stages of breast development and in the first stage, breasts appear as flat while in the early breast development, this occurs two to three years before the girls' first menstruation, and the surrounding area and the nipple would start to expand.Breast tissue starts to develop and it would be hardly noticeable and hard to touch. Whereas in the last stage, called breast enlargement, breasts would grow big into a conical shape and will gradually appear into a round shape.

Parents must educate their teenage girls that breast size and shape vary. Usually, the size of one's breasts will depend on genetics, therefore, if huge breasts run in the family, then a certain teenage girl will most likely have a big chance of developing huge breasts as well. How the girls would take care of their breasts must start with the family as neglecting the continuous growth may cause future problems.

Surely, teens who are large-breasted would not be used to growing breasts while some small-breasted may think about what factors affect their breast development.

According to Texas Children, when breasts start to grow, they can be tender and sore and may also itch as the skin gets stretched. Buying a bra can help protect the growth of the breast and somehow minimize the pain. Breasts will continue to expand and grow as the girl's body fat increases during puberty.

Parents looking after their child's breast development

According to The Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne, approximately one in four adult women have uneven breasts. One breast is overdeveloped while the smaller breasts appear to be underdeveloped.

Uneven breast sizes are only normal and there is no medical need for treating them. The difference in breast size is due to fat layers and not the ducts that create or produce milk. Uneven breast size contains no effect on the risk of breast cancer and as a parent, if you think the child has any concerns, then discuss such with the doctor and seek professional help.
