Great news for those who are both Wii U players and fans of the phenomenal open-ended sandbox game “Minecraft!” Mojang's game is reportedly coming to the Wii U console this month.
The Verge reported that “Minecraft” is already available for pretty much any gaming platform, such as the Xbox and PlayStation consoles. It's also available for smartphones and tablets. Only Nintendo systems are the only ones that don't have it yet.
But with the announcement from Mojang, Nintendo players can also rejoice in playing the game as well.
“That’s a surprise, eh?” Mojang said in its website. “Anyway, now it’s 100% official.”
The game will be available for the Wii U starting December 17, and will be priced at $29.99. It can only be bought via the eShop, as physical copies haven't been announced just yet.
“Minecraft” for the Wii U will be sold bundled with six of the most popular add-on packs, as well as a “Festive mash-up” themed content perfectly in time for the holidays.
“We’ll be adding more content packs to Wii U Edition in the near future (Wa-hoo!),” said Mojang, adding, “and updating the core game with free updates, just like our other platforms.”
Players are also reminded that the game can be enjoyed to great amounts without emptying pockets. “All DLC packs are optional,” the game developer added.
GameSpot reported that Nintendo has released details regarding what players can buy in addition to the game starting launch time:
"Minecraft" for Wii U comes bundled with the following:
- Battle & Beasts Skin Pack
- Battle & Beasts 2 Skin Pack
- Natural Texture Pack
- City Texture Pack
- Fantasy Texture Pack
- Festive Mash-up Pack
Players can also purchase these add-ons to the game:

- Doctor Who Skins Volume 1
- Doctor Who Skins Volume 2

One feature that sets the “Minecraft” Wii U Edition different from other platform editions is the “off-TV play” feature. With this, players can continue playing on the Gamepad while the TV is being used for “less fun things like movies or other video games.”
