Portland Mothers Send Breast Milk To Baby Boy After Father Seeks For Donations on Facebook

Here is a story to restore your faith to humanity this holiday season. A widowed father of a baby boy has started receiving breast milk donations after lactating mothers heard his heartwarming appeal on social media.

Alec Green, an artisan soap maker from Oregon, wanted to feed his son breast milk just like his late wife wanted to, but struggled to find help in his own town. Luckily, the new father found generous hearts 160 miles away from home.

On Friday, he wrote on the Facebook page Portland Mamas: "I am a newly single father to Brody, my 8-month-old son. His mother died in a car crash 4 months ago. So, for the past 4 months, I have continuously been seeking out breast milk donations."

Portland Mamas is a closed group with over 1,000 members. Green was promised 1,000 ounces of milk immediately after he posted the message on the social media page. He also collected several hundred ounces of breast milk from Bend this week after the story went viral.

The response was overwhelming, reported Yahoo! Parenting. Donations from mothers across Portland have started pouring in that Green eventually set up a separate closed group called Breast Milk for Brody. So far, the group has 45 members.

The widowed man shared that his growing bundle of joy has been consuming 16 to 20 ounces of milk every day. Baby Brody is also already munching on solid foods as 8 months old. His favorite? Biscuits and gravy, according to Oregon Live

However, the challenge is on keeping the breast milk coming. Green said the breast milk they have received can last up to his son's first birthday.

Baby Brody's grandmother, Robin Tweet, is also trying to raise money online through a GoFundMe campaign. The family has raised over $9,700 to be used for the child's present and future expenses.
