According to Deadline, "talks" on including "Mr. Robot" lead cast Rami Malek to play as Freddie Mercury has surfaced, alongside Bryan Singer to allegedly direct the upcoming film, "Bohemian Rhapsody." The report led to multiple reactions where critics do not seem to see Rami Malek as the perfect fit for the role.
Although there is no question in terms of Rami Malek's superb acting skills, aesthetic wise, the ethnicity of the star of "Mr. Robot" does not match with Freddie's. The latter is fair skinned while "Mr. Robot" Rami Malek is a non-white actor.
An Indian critic took to his Twitter account his thoughts about why it is not quite right for "Mr. Robot" star to play as Freddie in terms of ethnicity. The tweet explained that Rami Malek has an Egyptian origin while Freddie Mercury has Parsee origin.
One fan also expressed through her Twitter account her sentiments on having "Mr. Robot" star to play as Freddie. The tweet said she loves Rami Malek but to make him play the role of Freddie does not seem to make sense.
However, as of press time, there is still no official announcement regarding this report on "Mr. Robot" star Rami Malek to play as Freddie Mercury. Fans will have to take this with a grain of salt.
Meanwhile, prior to "Mr. Robot" star Rami Malek, it was comedian-actor Sacha Baron Cohen who was reported to play the role of Freddie. Unfortunately, Cohen backed out due to a conflict with another member of the British band. Apparently, there were some aspects of the life story of Freddie that the said band member would not want to be shown in the film, which Cohen did not agree with.
